1. Why is this software offered free? [top]
It is my philosophy that if a tool has the potential to be useful to many
people, the benefits of distributing it free, or at a nominal charge, outweigh the small
monetary gain you might make. How many times have you downloaded a useful piece of free
software and not paid for it? This is my way of giving back. This is not to say I am
against the commercialization of software or anything radical like that, in fact the
voluntary registrations are greatly appreciated, but they're not required by any means.
2. Is MegaBBS licensed under the GPL? What sorts of things are permissable under the MegaBBS license? [top]
MegaBBS is not licensed under the GPL. You can view the MegaBBS license here.
The license does not apply to the freely available htmlarea rich edit message box available
from www.interactivetools.com,
nor the public domain 'Pure ASP upload' script, and any other
external components which maintain copyrights their respective owners.

Then, I want to re-distribute it. Is this allowed?
No. You cannot redistribute the software or derivative works.
- Scenario 2: I want to take your software, modify it to add in widgets and features.
Then, I want to use it on my own site and sell products, banner advertisements,
bagels, and toothbrushes. Is this allowed?
Yes, as long as you are not redistributing the software.
- Scenario 3: I've created a web hosting service which features your software as part
of a package. Is this allowed?
Yes, as long as you are not redistributing the software,. You should likely handle the
installation yourself. Also we ask that you take reasonable steps to ensure you are using the latest versions.
- Scenario 4: I design corporate intranets and charge to install this forum. Is that
allowed?
Yes.
- Scenario 5: I want to release some add-ons for the forum. Is that allowed?
Yes. MODs are permitted under the license agreement.
- Scenario 6: I want to remove the link in the footer and all references to

3. How long has MegaBBS been in development? [top]
Development was started around July 2000, since then an estimated 7000 hours of
personal time has been put into it. It was officially released to the public June 2002,
and development grew even faster since then, as more and more users make suggestions and
improvements. Initially, it was called PForum, but that was really dumb sounding, so I
changed it.
4. What message boards influenced the design of MegaBBS? [top]
In no particular order: WWWBoard, UBB, phpBB, Invision, Slashdot, WebWiz and many
more.
5. Is all of the code original? [top]
Excluding third-party components, yes. It was all written from scratch.
6. Can I remove the copyright at the bottom of the page? [top]
You must register the software.
7. Can I change the logo at the top of the pages to my own? [top]
Of course you can.
